The Top 20 Grossing Movies on 2011 had a variety of genres included in the mix but 15 out of 20 were considered Action/Adventure.

2012

The most popular genre in 2012 was action/adventure. Action/adventure remained the most popular genre among all racial/ethnic groups. However, Musicals were the least popular genre among all racial/ethnic groups, but art house/indie received the fewest votes overall

Again, there was a mix of genres for 2013 Top 20 Grossing Movies and Action/Adventure swept it away with a total of 13 out of 20.
