The article “Big Pictures” by David Denby discusses what the future holds for motion picture distribution. Denby talks about how “theatrical grosses actually account for less than twenty per cent of total movie revenues.” This means that for my studies I have to put in account that information. If motion pictures switch over to digital projection, distubiting the film will be much faster because of transmitting movies by satellite. All the alternatives to movie platforms will effect how movies get sent off and distributed among producers and consumers.

This article source is creditable because it was published through the New Yorker, which is a online and printed magazine. I plan to use potential quotes to help me explain why my research needs to be looked at at different angles other than just the box office ratings. I want to know what people want to watch and what type of movies sell all around the world. This article does more than help me put the right foot forward.

"CNN Announces Creation Of CNN Films." PR Newswire US (10 Aug. 2012): n. pag. CNN Press Room. CNN. Web.

Even though this article was somewhat brief, it held an abundant amount of important information. CNN is a worldwide news corporation and is in fact the worldwide leader in news. In 2012, they announced that they would be filming and presenting documentaries and theatrical distribution segments. The reason for this project is to make a “wider strategy to acquire original non-fiction content to complement CNN’s award-winning news programs” (PR Newswire). One of the first documentaries aired on CNN was a film called “Girl Rising”. This was an inspiring documentary and opened eyes to the fact that young females around the globe had to fight nearly impossible odds to accomplish their goals and dreams. Many actresses got on board with CNN’s projects, such as, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Selena Gomez. CNN is planning on becoming broader with their segments, by presenting them at film festivals around the globe. CNN believes these documentaries will cover “an array of political, social, and economic subject matters’ (PR Newswire).

This article is more than creditable, because it is not only a journal that someone wrote; it is an official CNN public announcement that came from the network itself. Ever since this article has been published, there have been more segments and prime time events that have been on the news about cultures and places around the world. I believe this article is a great start for where I am headed with my research product. This is why I loved broadcasting in the first place, because I love culture and learning about different places around the world. I want to open eyes to the people sitting at home watching their TV screens. There is so much to learn and see in this world, it would be a waste if we didn’t try.
